North Pointe Bulletin for May 11th

The Call to Worship

“Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise….”

(Psalm 48: 1a NIV)

Happy Mother’s Day

Good morning and welcome to North Pointe!

We are so thrilled to see you and have you worship with us this Mother’s Day.

Today we will recognize each of our mothers and present a very special gift to

both the youngest and oldest mother.

Thank you for being such a valuable part of our church family.

   Have a wonderful weekend!

History of Mother’s Day

Mother's Day in America started about 150 years ago, when Anna Jarvis, an

Appalachian homemaker, organized a day to raise awareness of poor health

conditions in her community, a cause she believed would be best advocated by

mothers. She called it "Mother's Work Day."
Fifteen years later, Julia Ward Howe, a Boston poet and author of the lyrics to

the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," organized a day encouraging mothers to rally

for peace, since she believed they bore the loss of human life more harshly than

anyone else.
In 1905 when Anna Jarvis died, her daughter, also named Anna, began a campaign

to memorialize the life work of her mother. Anna began to lobby prominent businessmen

and politicians to support her campaign to create a special day to honor mothers. At one

of the first services organized to celebrate Anna's mother in 1908, at her church in

West Virginia , Anna handed out her mother's favorite flower, the white carnation.

Five years later, the House of Representatives adopted a resolution calling for officials

of the federal government to wear white carnations on Mother's Day.

In 1914 Anna's hard work paid off when Woodrow Wilson signed a bill recognizing

Mother's Day as a national holiday.

Champions’ Worship Service Today

We’ll have our worship service today at Champions on Porters Neck Road at 2 o’clock.

who were elected to our 2008-2009 Leadership Team at our local church conference last Sunday!

Next Sunday at North Pointe

We’ll have a very special guest singer in our morning worship service next Sunday.

She’s Donna Padon from Lexington, NC. Donna is an outstanding young Christian woman

with an incredible musical talent. She sings with such warmth and compassion; you can’t help

but sense God’s presence through each and every song she shares.

You will not want to miss this very special guest next Sunday morning.

Two Teens / 16 Days Adventure

Cooper Hammann and Spencer Loman have been given the opportunity to participate

in Kingdom Building Ministries’ 16 Days’ Adventure.

16 Days is a physically, emotionally and spiritually intense discipleship program designed

for high school students. It’s packed with action and suspense that will keep students on their toes.
Beginning with training in Denver, the students will load into RVs and head out on the open

road across the U.S. The trip will be filled with teaching by a KBM speaker, team building

and heart-pounding adventure such as white water rafting and paint-ball. One destination is

an urban location where students will encounter inspiring, gut-wrenching ministry.
16 Days lands back in the Colorado Rockies where KBM staff will join the students in

debriefing and creating practical application for carrying their purposes back into the real world.

The cost of the 16 Days will be $2,000 for each teen; plus, round-trip airfare to and from Denver.

Both will, no doubt, be extremely busy fund raising, so if you would like to give a donation on their

behalf, then please see Pastor Brian.

   Thank you!

Memorial Day Sunday

Coming up this Memorial Day weekend, plan to join us for a very special Sunday morning

worship service.

We will not only plan to recognize all of the servicemen and women who have given their lives

for the freedom of this nation, but there’s something else we will plan to do. Many of us have had

either a mother or father or maybe a sister or brother who has passed away. These family members

meant so much to us. Well, this Memorial Day service, we will plan to pay a special tribute to their memory.

Do plan to be a special part of this Memorial Day worship service.

Memorial Day Cook-Out at OgdenPark

We’re having a Memorial Day cook-out at OgdenPark!

That’s right on Memorial Day Monday, May 26th you’re invited to join us at Shelter #1 from

4 ‘til 8 pm for hamburgers, hot dogs and all the fixings. Plus, we’ll have homemade ice cream, too!

We’ll even have a softball game between the adults and the kids.

We’ll start signing up volunteers to assist with all the trimmings next Sunday!

Mark your calendar and plan to join the FUN this Memorial Day!
